The cashmere combing process is a key step to separate high-quality cashmere fiber from the goat’s coat.
1. Timing & Preparation
Combing is done in late spring when cashmere naturally sheds. Goats are properly restrained to ensure safety and comfort.
2. Machine Combing
Specialized cashmere carding machines are used to comb the fleece efficiently. The machine operates in a fixed direction to separate down fiber from coarse hair without damaging the fiber structure.
3. Sorting by Quality
Collected cashmere is graded immediately:
• Soft undercoat (top quality)
• Coarse guard hair (removed or downgraded)
4. Preliminary Cleaning
Remove dust, grass, and impurities to ensure raw cashmere is clean and uniform.

5. Quality Inspection of Combed Cashmere
To judge the quality of combed cashmere, check the following indicators:
• Fiber Purity: Minimum coarse hair and impurities, high content of soft down fiber.
• Fiber Uniformity: Consistent fiber length and fineness, no obvious short wool or broken fibers.
• Cleanliness: No visible dust, grass, or foreign matter, with a fluffy and soft texture.
• Color Consistency: Uniform color without obvious hetero-chromatic fibers.
